There are many things to do in the region, places to visit and things to see. Bolsover Castle was built in the 12th Century, and a further stone keep was built around it in 1173. This was breached in 1216 during King Johns reign. It was in later years bought by Sir Charles Cavendish in 1608 and was in that time designed for living in rather than for defence. After 1883 the Castle itself was then unlived in, and was handed to the British nation by the 7th Duke of Portland in 1945. Bolsover Castle is now in the care of the English Heritage.

Chatsworth House is most certainly worth visiting when staying with a Derbyshire Hotel. The house is currently the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, and has been home to the Cavendish family sine Bess of Hardwick settled there in the year 1549. Chatsworth's garden is one of the most famous gardens in Britain, and attracts around 300,000 visitors each year. The garden features instalments from 6 different centuries and it is surrounded by a 1.75 mile long wall. In order to keep the garden looking beautifully preened and manicured, the House must employ a staff of 20 full time gardeners!
